First Gulf CEO David Gerofsky welcomed today’s announcement by Premier Doug Ford of the province’s vision for transportation in the GTA.
“We are excited to see the plans for the East Harbour Station and the downtown relief line moving forward and at an accelerated pace,” said Gerofsky.
The map unveiled by the Premier this morning includes an East Harbour station that will integrate both subway (Ontario Line) and GO service.
“The East Harbour Station helps to unlock a $10 billion private sector investment to develop an employment and business hub just east of downtown that will be home to over 70,000 permanent jobs, and is critical to the development of the entire area,” added Gerofsky, “First Gulf thanks Premier Ford for his government’s commitment to the station and looks forward to working with both the Province of Ontario and the City of Toronto towards starting transit construction this year.”
Located on a 62-acre site at the Don Valley Parkway and Lakeshore Boulevard E., East Harbour is the largest planned commercial project in Canada. Creating new employment opportunities and bringing in new cultural venues, shops and restaurants, it will establish a new downtown east for the city. Construction of the project is anticipated to commence this year, with the first building, the Soap Factory, to be completed by 2021.
