KEEPING UP WITH QUEEN WEST. Following First Gulf’s successful work as construction manager on 60 Atlantic Avenue office building, Hullmark engaged our construction services team once again in 2014 for their new office building in one of Toronto’s most prestigious neighbourhoods—Queen West.
This three-storey new office building, located directly on Queen Street and just west of Portland Street, is the very definition of an urban office construction project. The very tight site offered minimal lay-down space, as well as the added challenge of maintaining a live construction site on one of Toronto’s most pedestrian and highly-trafficked streets. Our construction team worked collaboratively with the developer as well as with neighbouring sites to maximize every available square foot of the site while minimizing the affect on the construction schedule.
Queen West also offered unique historical requirement challenges to the design team, who were faced with creating a new building which would blend seamlessly with its well-established surroundings. First Gulf worked with Quadrangle Architects, the project architect for both the base building and the tenant fit-outs, to achieve an exterior facade which is simultaneously unique and fresh while remaining respectful of the historical surroundings. First Gulf worked with our consultant team to source the perforated stainless steel from a manufacturer overseas, coordinating with local suppliers to ensure that all elements would fit together seamlessly.
As we were finishing the base building, our construction team continued this collaboration to the interior fit-out, constructing a new head office for Hullmark.
